The reason a lot of us get chapped lips in the winter is due to less humidity in the air coupled with wind and even sunlight! We also tend to lick our lips more often in the winter because they feel dry, but we are actually making them worse doing that. The skin consists of three layers: the epidermis (the outer layer), dermis (the middle layer) and hypodermis (the innermost layer). Our lips have much thinner layers and therefore chap, chafe or dry out even faster.
